Family Jewels

I have to thank my friend Elizabeth (and maid of honor!) for sending this to me. San Juan, CA floral designer Amanda Heer does more than just real flower arrangements for weddings & events. She does these gorgeous bouquets made entirely of jewelry! The best part is that, while live flowers die (disclaimer: I’m absolutely planning to have real flowers at my wedding!), these last forever and become family heirlooms.

It’s simple: You collect pieces of jewelry (brooches, earrings, pendants, watches, etc… new or old) from friends and family. Send about 50 of them – they don’t have to be flowers – to Heer, letting her know which are your favorites. She’ll put them together ($350) and ship them back to you in just a week.
I found this photo on her blog – how special to give a brooch bouquet to your grandmother as a gift? It would be like an anthology of all of her special real & costume jewelry. Love this idea!
